Sometimes a shoot can be spontaneous, other times it must be planned in advance for it to technically work. Cross-training skills across different approaches and subjects and accumulating experience and time behind the lens makes each attempt or outing better, even if the intended shot doesn’t materials. Having an “open focus” or wide awareness of all possibilities while honing in on a shot, flexibility to change course at a moment’s notice, and patience.
